Fall Campout

  • Hansen's "Lazy H" Ranch: 4091 FM 3007, Scroggins, Texas (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Our first campout for the 2021-22 year is scheduled for Oct. 15-17, in East Texas, at Brother Dean “Doc”, and Edee Hansen’s ranch near Scroggins, TX (4091 FM 3007, Scroggins, Texas … near Lake Bob Sandlin and about a two hour drive east). Many thanks to the Hansen’s for allowing us to use their ranch!! This will be a primitive camp site. Doc & Edee’s ranch is sizeable (~300 acres) and has livestock, but the animals will be fenced-in, separated from where we’ll be camping … we’ll need to NOT cross any fence lines from the area of the ranch where we’ll be camping. There is a private shooting range, so our primary activity for Saturday will be doing some gun safety and small caliber target shooting training with the cadets. There is also a pond that Doc says should have some fish in it.

Rough Schedule:

  • Friday 10/15:

    • Arrivals and camp set-up: 1:00 – 6:00pm

    • Dinner (plan to bring your own food & drinks for the campout , but we’ll have several dads with propane stoves to cook or bring a portable BBQ grill and charcoal): 6:00 – 7:00pm

    • Camp Fire & Smores: 7:00 – 8:00pm

    • Pray Rosary as a Troop around campfire & spiritual reflection / discussion: 8:00 – 9:00pm

    • Sit around campfire & bed-down for night: 9:00+

  • Saturday 10/16:

    • “Rise & Shine”, breakfast & prep for the day: 7:00 – 9:30am

    • Junior Cadet Patrols: Work on select junior cadet requirement skills / Senior Cadets: chopping wood for use on future campouts: 9:30am – Noon

    • Lunch: 12:00 – 1:00pm

    • Gun Safety / Orientation and Target Shooting: 1:00 – 5:00pm (fishing &/or hiking as alternate activity)

    • Vigil Mass (pending Father Stephen’s availability): 5:30 – 6:30pm

    • Dinner: 6:30 – 7:30pm

    • Camp Fire & Smores: 7:30 – 8:30pm

    • Pray Rosary as a Troop around campfire & spiritual reflection / discussion: 8:30 – 9:30pm
